Defending race winner James Buescher will lead off Saturday's 43-car starting field after earning the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell with a 49.575 second/181.543 mph lap around the 2.5 mile speedway. <P> Danica Patrick, making her stock car debut in Saturday's ARCA Racing Series race, qualified 12th with a 50.059 second/179.788 mph lap, posting the exact same time as Indiantown, Florida's Patrick Sheltra. Sheltra starts ahead of Patrick in the race based on 2009 car owner points. <P> "She's just another driver in the field and that's how you have to look at it," polesitter Buescher told members of the media on Friday afternoon when asked about racing alongside Danica Patrick during her stock car debut. "Hopefully everyone in our race stays smart and no one over drives while trying to impress the large audience we have for this race. They showed us a crash video during the driver's meeting yesterday and it got our attention. I think there were 3 or 4 wrecks ahead of me in this race last year that I was able to avoid so hopefully my heart won't skip too many beats this year. <P> "I knew the car was going to be fast because we were fast yesterday. I wasn't sure how the wind changing around was going to affect everyone else. You could definitely feel the wind blowing. We don't want to mess the car up so we're not going to participate in happy hour. I've actually never done the happy hour practice in any speedway race. They tend to wreck a couple of cars in that practice and I don't want to risk it." <P> Buescher, the defending race winner, is competing in the same chassis he won last year's Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 in. <P> Mikey Kile, in a Venturini Motorsports Toyota, starts on the outside front row (49.653 seconds/181.258 mph). The Westlake, Louisiana, native was fastest among 60 ARCA Racing Series teams who participated in ARCA's three-day open test in December. <P> "I've probably run over 1000 laps in my mind in between the December test and this race weekend," said Kile. "We were hoping for a pole award today but with our qualifying draw and the wind and everything this is the way it worked out. We worked really hard during the off season and this qualifying result is a direct result of that hard work. The car drafts well and drives well so I'm looking forward to getting the race started. We might go out there and make some single car runs later (during the limited-impound afternoon practice session) but we don't want to draft. We watched the Cup practice yesterday and we don't want to risk messing up our best piece. It's just not worth it." <P> Joey Coulter starts third in the No. 16 Rip It Energy Fuel Chevrolet. <P> "I think we all thought we were going to be a little bit quicker but we are thrilled with the way we ran," said Coulter. "It was consistent with our practice session yesterday and anytime you can keep consistent that's good. I'm definitely looking forward to tomorrow because I think my car will probably race better than it qualified--at least that's the goal. We'll probably just run a few laps in drafting practice later today." <P> Dakoda Armstrong qualified fourth followed by Bryan Silas, Mark Thompson, Nelson Piquet, Jr., Bobby Gerhart, John Wes Townley and Steve Arpin. <P> Teams will participate in a final practice session from 5:40-6:30 p.m. where Patrick and others will get the chance to shake down their cars in the draft before Saturday's race, which is live on SPEED beginning at 4:30 p.m. Eastern. Saturday's race is live on SPEED beginning at 4:30 p.m. Eastern. <P> <H2>Penske Donates Trucks</H2> Penske Corporation and its family of companies announced that today it has donated over $1 million worth of diesel-powered flatbed trucks to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. <P>  I m pleased the Penske Corporation has stepped up to donate more than $1 million worth of trucks, which will be instrumental in mobilizing food and lifesaving supplies in Haiti, President Clinton said.  Their generous contribution is an example of what the private sector can do to help Haiti rebuild and recover from the massive earthquake, and I m grateful for their leadership. <P> "The catastrophe that has struck Haiti is almost unimaginable," said Roger Penske, Chairman of Penske Corporation. Richardson with memorial decals during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway. <P> The No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet will carry the decals behind the front tires for the February 6 Budweiser Shootout. All three of RCR s Sprint Cup Series entries will carry the decals for the 52nd annual Daytona 500 on February 14, and its Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series entries will also carry the decals for their season-opening races. <P> Richardson passed away December 25, 2009, from complications from the H1N1 virus. He joined RCR in July 2009 and finished the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season with the No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet Impala SS team. The Leominster, Mass., native was 37. <P>  D.J. should be jumping off the wall and changing tires for us again this season so we wanted to honor him in this special way, said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing.  He was a valued member of the RCR family and is missed as we start the 2010 season. <P> <H2>Johnson Gets His Due</H2> It only took an unprecedented fourth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship, but the media finally thinks Jimmie Johnson will defend his crown, according to a preseason media poll. Incredibly, this isn't a typical outcome. Only once in the previous five preseason polls has Johnson been tapped as the favorite in 2005, the last season he didn't win the championship. In 2006 and 2008, the media picked Jeff Gordon to win it all, in 2007 it picked Tony Stewart, and last year, the press picked Carl Edwards. Rounding out the top 12: Gordon in second, Stewart in third, Kyle Busch in fourth, Edwards in fifth, Denny Hamlin in sixth, Mark Martin in seventh, Kurt Busch in eighth, Juan Pablo Montoya in ninth, Matt Kenseth in 10th, Greg Biffle in 11th and Ryan Newman in 12th. <P> Drivers who made the 2009 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, but were left out of the 2010 preseason media top 12 poll are Kasey Kahne and Brian Vickers. Kahne ranked 14th; Vickers 20th. Predictors think Dale Earnhardt Jr. will again miss the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, but barely. He ranked 13th in the poll. In the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year poll, the media thinks Kevin Conway will take home the trophy over Terry Cook. She finished 13th and looks forward to the new challenge.  This is a lifelong dream to race in the Nationwide Series and will soon be a reality, and I want to thank Rick Ware Racing for making it come true, stated Wallace. <P> Once again marking the first time in history that a Father-Daughter will compete against each other in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Chrissy will join her father on the track to top last season s performance at Talladega in the Camping World Truck race in 2009. <P> More history could be made as Wallace will become the first female to make her Nationwide Series debut at the famous Daytona International Speedway. <P> With so many storylines during the opening week of the NASCAR season, nothing could be more intriguing than four family members competing against each other in the same event. Father Mike Wallace will be in the #01, Uncle Kenny Wallace in the #28, cousin Stephen Wallace in the #66 and Chrissy in the #41. <P> As all eyes focus on the newest female in NASCAR Danica Patrick, the Nationwide Series could benefit the most; Patrick and Wallace could face off in their series debut. It is the classic battle that most fans have been waiting to see; the open wheel star versus the old school stock car racer. <P> Regardless, Wallace s debut is more than publicity.  We have a great car and an extremely stout motor. Our first goal is to make the show because we have to qualify on time. This team did qualify 8th at Daytona in 2009.
