In a way, that s a sign to him and everyone else that that s not going to work on me. <P>  I feel lucky to be in race cars that are as safe as they are, to be able to be here talking today and to be able to say,  Hey, I ll take the lick and I ll get out of the car and come back the next race weekend and drive just as hard just to prove a point that I wasn t wrong and I still don t feel like I m wrong. <P> Edwards, who was angry over contact from Keselowski earlier in the race and by previous run-ins with the driver, returned to the track at Atlanta to retaliate against Keselowski. He was parked by NASCAR after the incident and placed on probation for three races. <P> Keselowski said he is too biased to have a credible opinion on NASCAR s penalty. He said he would have not felt good if Edwards had been suspended because fans would be confused by such a harsh penalty after the January announcement that NASCAR was loosening the reins on drivers and letting them police themselves on the track. <P> As far as how far drivers can go without a points deduction or suspension, Keselowski said  whether or not that is somebody getting hurt, I hope not. Keselowski said his reaction wouldn t include payback toward Edwards.<a href="http://www.scenedaily.com/news/articles/sprintcupseries/Brad_Keselowski_says_he_wont_back_down_will_continue_to_race_aggressively_despite_controversial_crash_with_Carl_Edwards.html" target="new">(scenedaily.com)</a> <P> <H2>Keyed-Up Will Use ECR Engines</H2> Keyed-Up Motorsports announced today that it has formed an alliance with Earnhardt-Childress Racing engines (ECR) to supply the #90 Chevrolet Impala and driver Casey Mears with horsepower for the remainder of the 2010 Sprint Cup Series Schedule. <P> ECR develops and builds engines for its Chevrolet NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series teams and also leases engines for teams in NASCAR s top three series. ECR engines dominated the Daytona International Speedway earlier this season, as ECR engines were used by Nationwide race winner Tony Stewart (No. 4), Sprint Cup Bud Shootout winner Kevin Harvick (No. 29), and Daytona 500 race winner Jaime McMurray (No. 1). The season s second race of the year (Auto Club 500, Fontana, CA) saw ECR engines take the top three starting spots, with McMurray on the pole. <P> "This is a huge step in the right direction to be competitive, Keyed-Up Motorsports driver Casey Mears stated today.  We still have a lot of short-term work to do to accomplish our goals, but this gives us a more of an advantage to making races. <P>  We ran an ECR engine in the Gatorade Duel race back in February and we were very competitive amongst the multi-car teams, stated Keyed-Up s owner, Raymond Key.  We utilized another company s engines following Daytona, and after failing to make the last three races, we decided to make some serious adjustments. Our engine program was high on our list. <P> The next stop on the 2010 Sprint Cup circuit is the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday, March 21st. The team currently sits outside the top 35 in points; therefore, it must rely on one of the fastest speeds amongst the cars listed as  go-or-go-homers . <P>  We have missed the last few races by less than fourteen-tenths (.14) of a second , added Key.  With an ECR engine in the car, we feel our horsepower struggles are over and we a better opportunity to qualify for races. <P> <H2>SMI Earnings Down</H2> Speedway Motorsports Inc. s overall revenue declined by 9.9 percent in 2009, including a 13.3 percent drop in ticket revenue, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. <P> Speedway Motorsports Inc, finished 2009 with a balance sheet showing a $10.3 million loss, while its income from continuing operations was $74.9 million, down 28.2 percent from $104.3 million in 2008, according to the filing. <P> Part of the difference comes from a $74.5 million devaluation of Motorsports Authentics, the struggling merchandise company that SMI co-owns with rival International Speedway Corp. Both companies now consider Motorsports Authentics to have no carrying value. <P> SMI has 12 Cup races at seven tracks  Atlanta, Bristol, Charlotte, Infineon Raceway, Las Vegas, New Hampshire and Texas  and also owns Kentucky Speedway. <P> For 2009, overall revenues dropped from $611 million to $550.5 million. Admissions revenue dropped from $188 million to $163.1 million. Event-related revenues (sponsorships, concessions, merchandise, etc.) dropped 15.5 percent, from $211.6 million to $178.8 million, and broadcast revenue increased 3.3 percent, from $168.2 million to $173.8 million. <P> SMI s 2010 forecast is for the economic struggles to continue as it projects overall revenues to drop to $500-$533 million and for its diluted earnings per share from continuing operations to be $1.00-$1.40 after it was $1.66 in 2009 and $2.40 in 2010. <P> While SMI has only one Cup race sponsorship left to be sold (the Atlanta race on Labor Day), company officials said they expect corporate spending, as well as admissions revenue, to be down in 2010.<a href="http://www.scenedaily.com/news/articles/sprintcupseries/Speedway_Motorsports_revenues_drop_nearly_10_percent_in_2009_ticket_revenue_down_13_percent.html" target="new">(scenedaily.com)</a> <P> <H2>Talladega Tests</H2> NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams will assemble on Tuesday, March 16 for an important early-season test at Talladega Superspeedway. Approximately 24 teams are expected to participate in the one-day session, which will target a number of mechanical options in advance of the Aaron s 499 on Sunday, April 25 at Talladega. <P> NASCAR Sprint Cup officials will analyze the data gleaned  along with teams input  and later make several key decisions for the Aaron s 499. Teams also will test spoilers, which will replace the current wings on the backs of cars. <P> No timetable has been set for the wing-to-spoiler move. <P> "It's a confirmation test for restrictor plates and gearing, and an opportunity for teams to work on their handling packages as we transition to the spoiler," said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR s vice president of competition. <P> Rule changes, announced on Jan. 21, are the impetus behind the test. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams used larger carburetor restrictor-plate openings in the 2010 Daytona 500 and larger plate openings are expected for the Aaron s 499 at Talladega. <P> At 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR mandated openings of 63/64-inch  the largest since the one-inch mandate in 1988, the first year the horsepower-reducing plates were used in NASCAR Sprint Cup competition at Daytona. Each plate contains four openings, which restrict air flow to the engine, thus slowing stock cars. Larger openings mean more air, and more horsepower. <P> The switch from wing to spoiler also was a rule change. <P> The wing replaced the traditional stock-car spoiler on NASCAR s new car, now in its third fulltime season. Returning to the spoiler means on-track testing, and another series test  Tuesday, March 23 and Wednesday, March 24 at Charlotte Motor Speedway  will be devoted solely to spoiler work. <P> Both the Charlotte and Talladega tests are exceptions to the current testing policy. For the second consecutive season, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams may not test at facilities that host national-series events. This year, teams may test at tracks that host regional touring series events, but not national series events. <P> Next Tuesday s Talladega session begins at 9 a.m. CT and runs until 5 p.m. CT with a noon-1 p.m. lunch break. <P> Fans are welcome to attend, with free admission.
