All-Ganassi Racing Front Row At Indy
21 year-old Reed Sorenson and teammate rookie Juan Pablo Montoya, both driving Dodge Chargers, will share the front row for Sunday's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. Sorenson turned a lap of 48.858 seconds around the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a speed of 184.207 mph. This is the first NASCAR Nextel Cup pole for Sorenson and the best starting spot for Montoya since he announced a year ago that he was coming to race in the series. Sorenson was the second driver to qualify and waited through nearly the entire field before learnig that he was the pole winner. A strong run for Ryan Newman and Dale Earnhardt Jr. put them in the third and fourth starting position respectively.

Kasey Kahne starts fifth and Kurt Busch sixth followed by Jeff Burton, Greg Biffle, Casey Mears and Denny Hamlin to round out the top-ten. Six drivers failed to qualify, Joe Nemechek, A.J. Allmendinger, Kevin Lepage, Dale Jarrett, Jeremy Mayfield and Kenny Wallace Nemechek and Jarrett had both been in all previous 13 Cup races at the Brickyard, as had Sterling Marlin, who was not entered. The top ten cars consisted of five Dodges, four Chevrolets and one Ford. Terry Labonte, driving in place of Michael Waltrip, failed to qualify on time, took a past Champions provisional and will start last when the green flag drops at approximately 2:15 p.m. Eastern time.

Rain Forces Second Schedule Revision
Once again rain in the Indianapolis area forced NASCAR to issue a revision of the Saturday NASCAR Nextl Cup schedule. There will be one practice session from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. eastern time. Qualifying for Sunday's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard will be at 5:30 p.m. eastern time. Also NASCAR has changed the status of pre-race conditions. Qualifying procedure was changed from an impound race to a non-impound race. The cars have just taken to the track for the first time this weekend.

Evernham Admits Mistakes With Crocker
Ray Evernham said his personal relationship with Erin Crocker hurt her career, and the Nextel Cup team owner is trying to place the 26-year-old driver with another team. Crocker drove in the Craftsman Truck Series for Evernham Motorsports last year and began dating Evernham early in the season. The pair came under heavy scrutiny when Jeremy Mayfield, who was fired by Evernham Motorsports, filed a civil suit alleging Evernham hadn't spent enough time with his team partly because he was distracted by Crocker.

We did our part to not let it affect our performance," Evernham, 49, said. "What happened was a lot of stuff written and said and reported probably had people form opinions that were necessarily not true.

"I don't know how you do things differently. I felt we were very professional about everything we did and continue to be, but people are going to draw their opinions based on what the media reports. That affects sponsorship, the perception of the quality of the people you get to work on the car and the quality of the sponsor that you get."

Evernham believes Crocker's statistics in the ARCA series prove she can handle stock cars. She has five top-five finishes in eight starts this season. At Kentucky Speedway three weeks ago, she started from the pole, led 12 laps and placed second.

"I think the girl's got a lot of talent, but if I sit here and say to somebody she's got a lot of talent you should sponsor her, my credibility is not good because of the personal relationship with her," Evernham said. "I believe in her. She has a lot of things going on and hopefully something will fall for her. She's talked to some Busch teams, some truck teams.(usatoday.com)

Hornaday Wins Rain Delayed Truck Race
Ron Hornaday, driving the No. 33 Camping World Silverado, extended his crown as the all-time winner in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) with his win in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at O'Reilly Raceway Park. The trip to victory lane for the two-time NCTS champion was the third of the season and the 32nd of his career. The victory closed the gap in Hornaday's quest for a third crown, pulling him within 77 points of the leader and extended his lead over third in the standings to 169 points with 14 of the 25 races on the 2007 NCTS schedule. "This is an awesome win for our Camping World Silverado, "said Hornaday. "Rick Ren (crew chief) called an awesome race and the adjustments they made on the first stop made the truck awesome."

Hornaday passed Travis Kvapil with 30 laps to go and stood his ground on several late restarts. The race ended on a green-white-checkers with Hornaday holding off a hard charging Johnny Benson. "Johnny Benson and I raced side-by-side for what seemed like 40 laps, and I couldn't get away from him," Hornaday said. "He wanted to win as much as we did." Kvapil finished third and Rick Crawford was fourth. Rounding out the top ten were Ken Schrader, Todd Bodine, Erik Darnell, Regan Smith, Regan Smith and Brendan Gaughan.

Hornaday, who cut into Mike Skinner's Series points lead, from 164 to 77, made contact with rookie Willie Allen, sending Allen to the wall. "I started in under Willie and Benson and Travis (Kvapil) were right there with me and Willie slid up a little bit and I got in to him and he got in to the wall," said Hornaday. "I apologize to Willie cause I hate it that happened. Willie is a great little racer and he had a good truck tonight."

Tim Sauter finished 18th and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the second time this season. "We had a good truck the first half of the race, and we were really good," said Sauter. "We changed tires, and the second set of tires just didn't feel as good. But we thought we could hold our own. That second to last caution really hurt us, so we lost a lot of spots there. But all in all, it's in one piece and we've still got a good truck to carry on." -- There were nine cautions for 49 laps, one shy of the track record set in 2006. The next race Craftsman Truck race will be August 11, 2007 at Nashville Superspeedway.
