Rudd Separated Shoulder
Ricky Rudd entered California Speedway with the greatest of intentions as he marked his 900th career NASCAR Cup start, but left the Sharp AQUOS 500 prematurely — and with a separated left shoulder.

Rudd was involved in a five-car crash triggered when Jeff Gordon slid up into Jeremy Mayfield on the frontstretch on Lap 180. The event turned into a race the popular driver won't soon forget.

"Going out on a stretcher, I'll certainly remember that," said Rudd, after he was treated and released from Loma Linda University Medical Center Sunday night. "I don't remember that lap to be honest. It kind of knocked me silly. There were a bunch of cars. I think someone hit me in the rear quarter panel. "I'm doing good now. It was hard to get my shirt on. It's a separated shoulder. I'm going to see Dr. (Jerry) Petty in Charlotte tomorrow to get an idea of what to expect."(foxsports.com)

Wheelchair Gift
The Darrell Gwynn Foundation (DGF) is about to give a Richmond seven year old a much-needed back to school gift. DGF, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the care and support of spinal cord injury victims, will donate a new power wheelchair to Mitchell "Corran" Hale. The presentation of this life-changing donation will take place on stage during the pre-race ceremonies at this year’s Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway on September 8th. In addition, Chevy Racing is providing a VIP day for Corran and his family, including race tickets, corporate hospitality, and a guided tour of the NASCAR garage area where Corran can see his favorite drivers and race cars.

Although Corran has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, his family has tried to make his life as normal as possible. He participates in several outdoor water activities, including boating and tubing. He also loves the Power Rangers. “Corran is the perfect example of someone who has not let a disability limit his everyday life,” said Darrell Gwynn, president and founder of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. “Just like any other boy his age he loves sports and being outdoors. You almost forget that he even has a disability when you hear about all of the activities he does. And with the help of Chevy Racing and Richmond International Raceway, we are going to give him a gift that will allow him to excel even more in his adventures and an experience he will long remember.”

But despite Corran’s level of activity, he needs a power wheelchair for mobility. His smaller arms are too short to move long distances in his current manual chair. Unfortunately, his insurance will not provide him with a power chair and his current manual chair is old and simply worn out.

The Darrell Gwynn Foundation exists to prevent, provide for and ultimately cure spinal cord injuries and other debilitating illnesses. The foundation works to help improve the quality of life for those already afflicted with injury and illness by providing necessary equipment or special services. The presentation to Corran Hale is one in a series of national donations the Foundation will present throughout the year. DGF has partnered with the Easter Seals Foundation to help identify recipients for the Wheelchair Donation Program.

Camp Easter Seals Virginia has also had a significant impact on Corran’s life. During a recent trip, he took part in canoeing, horseback riding and archery. The counselors are familiar with Corran’s needs and make accommodations so that he can actively participate in all of the Camp activities.

Group Takes Control Of HOF Racing
Hall of Fame Racing will continue its partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing and follow its switch from Chevrolet to Toyota in 2008, the teams announced Sunday. Hall of Fame Racing officials also made official the announcement that two executives with the Arizona Diamondbacks have purchased majority interest in the NASCAR team owned by Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach, extending the partnerships-and-mergers trend in Nextel Cup this season.

Jeff Moorad, chief executive officer of the Diamondbacks, and Tom Garfinkel, the chief operating officer, are the new controlling owners of the No. 96 Chevrolet team. HFR general partner Bill Saunders and Joe Gibbs Racing president J.D. Gibbs announced the partnership extension. JGR is expected to announce Wednesday its move to Toyota. JGR supplies engines, chassis and bodies to HFR in a lease agreement. Garfinkel is the former executive vice president of Chip Ganassi Racing. Moorad founded a sports management company in 1983. His firm has represented Aikman for many years.

"In Hall of Fame Racing, we found a team of great people with a great foundation that we can build on," Garfinkel said.

Aikman and Staubach, former Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks, were the front men for a team that was formed by Saunders at the start of the 2006 season.

Tony Raines is the driver of HFR's car, which is sponsored by DLP/Texas Instruments. Garfinkel said no decision has been made on whether Raines will return next season.(espn.go.com)
