Chevy Takes Manufacturer's Title A total of nine different drivers have contributed to the 19 victories in 26 races thus far this season that brought Chevrolet this award. Chevy drivers who posted wins during the season included Jimmie Johnson (6), Jeff Gordon (4), Tony Stewart (3), Kevin Harvick (1), Denny Hamlin (1), Kyle Busch (1), Jeff Burton (1), Casey Mears (1), and Martin Truex, Jr. (1) This marks Team Chevy's fourth consecutive Manufacturers' title under the Nextel reign. The 2007 Manufacturers' Championship continues Chevrolet's dominance of North America's most popular racing series. "This has been a dream season for Chevrolet," said Ed Peper, General Manager for Chrevrolet."We have won 19 Cup races so far this year. We have nine of the 12 drivers in the running for the NASCAR Nextel Cup title. And tonight we also want to congratulate Hendrick Motorsports and Jimmie Johnson for winning the Chevy Rock & Roll 400. Our success in NASCAR is a result of many hours of hard work and dedication from all the men and women on our Chevy race teams. We know that a strong performance in racing helps to generate the same strong performance in the marketplace, and we're pleased with everyone's efforts to keep the Chevy bowtie out front on and off the track."
Gibson To Crew Chief No. 1 Car "Tony's well known in the industry and will become well known to the general public," said DEI Vice President John Story on Saturday at Richmond International Raceway. "He's had so much experience at Hendrick and with various cars at DEI. He has worked with some very high profile programs. We're very excited about Tony taking over that team." Story expects the current No. 8 team to become the No. 01 team next year with Smith while the current No. 01 crew moves to the No. 8 along with drivers Mark Martin and Aric Almirola.(scenedaily.com)

52 Teams Test At Talladega “I think it's going to be a big test,” said NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton. “When you look at Talladega historically, they have had some of the most exciting races and tightest competition. That race track is one of the widest tracks we go to. It is the biggest track we go to. So the races there have historically been great.” A total of 52 series teams will test next Monday and Tuesday on Talladega’s high-banked, 2.66-mile tri-oval. It’s the sixth of seven NASCAR-scheduled series tests in 2007 and the third dedicated to the Car of Tomorrow (previous tests for the new car took place at Bristol Motor Speedway and Richmond International Raceway). Teams are phasing in the new car by running it in 16 of 36 scheduled ’07 events; the Oct. 7 race at Talladega marks the 14th such event. It’s also the fourth event in the 2007 Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup – the battle for the series title that takes place during the season’s final 10 events. Five of those events will be run with the new car. NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Director John Darby said the new car will have a considerable, positive effect on teams’ restrictor-plate preparations. Two of the car’s new components – including the splitter just below the front air dam and the rear wing – should allow crew chiefs more restrictor-place tuning options. “Forever, we've had a restrictor-plate car and a short-track and intermediate car,” Darby said of the variations of the current car. “And although I would never walk down the path of being as naive as saying there won't be any differences, the cars will be much, much closer. The differences between the (.526.-mile) Martinsville (Speedway) car and Talladega car will probably be small enough that only a specialist in the field will be able to tell them apart.” Both days’ sessions run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. CT, weather permitting. Each includes a lunch break from noon-1 p.m. CT. Media will have interview opportunities during both lunch breaks.
