Injured Crewman Released From Hospital
Art Harris, the gas can man for Michael Waltrip Racing's No. 55 Nextel Cup car, was injured Sunday when he was hit by a flying tire that had been hit by another car during a busy pit-road period of the Dodge Dealers 400 at Dover International Speedway. David Ragan's Roush Fenway Racing car hit a loose tire, believed to be from the 44, on pit road and that tire hit Harris. Harris was awake and alert and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. According to the team, he was treated and released Sunday afternoon.(scenedaily.com)

Dale Jr. Gear Hot Items
When Dale Earnhardt Jr. cracked the tab on that first AMP Energy drink Wednesday in Dallas, traditional retail stores such as Wal-Mart and K-Mart gobbled up 160,000 t-shirts. Gold mine. "Right off the gun," said Joe Mattes, JR Motorsports VP of licensing. "That's a lot for this sport." And Mattes would know. He used to run Dale Earnhardt's merchandising empire. In all, 200,000 Dale Jr. No. 88 t-shirts have been ordered for sale.

"It makes sense," Mattes said. "There's two sponsors -- it's a double-hit. It's not like a [typical] guy coming out with a new sponsor. It's Dale Jr. with two sponsors. His fans have to have one of each. They're shipped and ready to go. We hit it right. Everyone kept quiet about it. By end of weekend, all said and done, there's a couple hundred thousand t-shirts sold. A lot of them are pre-booked. NASCAR.com and dalejr.com are close to record days. There's so much pent-up demand, [fans] are hitting it hard."(espn.go.com)

Wimmer Signs Deal With RCR
Scott Wimmer has finalized a deal with Richard Childress Racing that will put him in at least 23 Busch Series races in 2008 and position himself for a full-time Nextel Cup ride. Wimmer will drive 23 races in the No. 29 Holiday Inn car and there's potential to put him in the No. 2 driven by Clint Bowyer for the remaining 12 Busch events so he can compete for a championship.

He also could run five to 10 Nextel Cup events if the organization doesn't go fulltime with a fourth team in NASCAR's premier series. Wimmer has driven in two Cup events for RCR, finishing 31st in this year's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis and 12th in the 2006 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.(espn.go.com)

No. 99 Car Too Low In Post-Race Inspection
(Carl) Edwards will keep the win even though his car failed postrace inspection for being more than a half-inch low, the tolerance NASCAR allows on height. He likely will be fined a minimum of 25 driver's points and $25,000, the standard this season for such a violation. That means instead of climbing to third place within three points of leader Jeff Gordon, he will be in sixth place, 28 back.

The look of disappointment on his face was evident as he talked with NASCAR officials about the infraction that will be looked into further when the car is evaluated again at the R&D center in Concord, N.C.(espn.go.com)

    Baby Girl For Ambrose
Marcos Ambrose’s decision to pass up an opportunity to make his NASCAR Nextel Cup debut at Dover today was justified when his wife Sonja gave birth to their second child at 3pm in Charlotte, North Carolina today (6am Australian Eastern Standard Time).

Ambrose finished 20th in the NASCAR Busch Series race on Saturday in his #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion and then flew directly back to Charlotte to be with his wife.

Ambrose had been offered the chance to make his Nextel Cup debut in a second Robby Gordon Motorsport entry, but kindly declined the opportunity because he knew it would be “cutting it fine” with the impending birth. Sonja went into labor at 8am this morning and was driven to hospital where Adelaide Elizabeth Ambrose arrived at 3.04pm weighting 7lbs 11 ounces. Adelaide is a sister for two-year-old Tabitha.

“As they say, timing is everything,” said Ambrose. “We knew it was always going to be close and as it turned out we would have been right in the middle of the Nextel Cup race when little Adelaide arrived. “Mum and baby are great and Tabitha is thrilled to have a little baby sister. Thankfully she looks more like her mum than me. Sonja and I would like to thank everyone who has been so supportive during the pregnancy and for the well wishes we have already received.”

Ambrose will continue his NASCAR Busch Series campaign at Kansas City, Kansas this weekend.
